Drivers eight and nine. The first six drivers describe a shift. These two turn a shift into a year, and they are where people who chose well on the first six still end up unhappy.
Driver 8: shift supply
A room's economics per shift are only half the picture. The other half is how many shifts exist and whether you get them.
How many bartenders the room needs. A twelve-seat cocktail bar may run one bartender a night. A three-hundred-capacity room may run six. The small room can have far stronger per-shift economics and almost no way in, because there is one schedule slot and it belongs to someone.
How long a shift is. "A shift" is not a unit. A brunch shift and a Friday close are not the same quantity of anything. When someone quotes you anything per shift, the first question is how many hours, including the close.
