What this module is for
Module 3 was the drinks. This module is everything else the job actually consists of — which, measured in the things that get people fired, is most of it.
A bar is a small cash business with expensive inventory, a lot of untracked transactions, and a legal exposure attached to every single sale. The bartender is the person standing at the centre of all three. That is why the job pays what it pays, and it is why the parts of it that look like admin are not admin.
What you will be able to do
- Read a back bar as a price ladder, and answer "what do you have?" in a way that is useful rather than a recital
- Ring in an order correctly, and understand why the register is a bigger deal than it looks
- Open, hold, transfer and close tabs without losing money
- Handle comps, buybacks, remakes and spills the way your house wants them handled
- Recognise when someone has had enough, say so without it becoming an incident, and write it down properly
