What this module is for
There are roughly 10,000 named cocktails. A working bartender uses about thirty of them, and most of a shift is not cocktails at all — it is beer, wine, shots, and six variations on spirit-plus-mixer.
This module is scoped to one thing: getting you through a real shift. It is not a reference book. If you want a reference book, buy one after you have a job, because you will finally know which parts of it you need.
What you will be able to do
- Recognise that almost every drink you get asked for is one of six templates, and build a drink you have never made before by working out which template it belongs to
- Make about thirty drinks from memory, with specs that will not get corrected
- Pour accurately with a jigger, and understand what free-pouring actually is and when to learn it
- Assemble four drinks at once instead of one drink four times
