Where the money actually comes from

3 minUpdated 2026-08-02

Ask the internet what bartenders make and you get two kinds of answer. One is a single national number that describes nobody. The other is a confident figure per shift, posted by a site that also sells a course, with no source attached to it.

Both are useless for the decision you are actually making, which is almost never "should I bartend" in the abstract. It is "should I take this job, at this bar, on these shifts, instead of that one" — and that question has a real answer you can work out yourself.

What this module does

It takes bartender pay apart into nine drivers. Each one is something you can observe from a bar stool, ask in an interview, or look up for your state. Put together they explain why two people with the same job title and the same skill can have completely different weeks, and they let you compare two venues in front of you rather than guessing.
