What this module is for
Getting hired is not the finish line. The first month is where a new bartender either becomes part of the team or quietly stops being scheduled, and the difference is mostly made up of things that have nothing to do with drinks.
This module is about what to do in week one so that you are still there in month two.
The thing to understand about your first month
You are being evaluated on reliability and attitude, not on skill. Everyone knows you are new. Nobody expects speed. What they are watching is whether you show up, whether you are easy to work with, whether you take correction, and whether you are getting better week over week.
That is good news, because all four are available to you immediately and none of them require experience.
The corollary is less comfortable: being talented does not protect you from being unreliable. A fast bartender who is late twice gets fewer shifts than a slow one who is never late. Bars run on a schedule that breaks when one person does not appear, and that is the frame through which everything you do in this first month is read.
