The questions they ask

8 minUpdated 2026-08-02

The interview is short and informal

A bar interview usually happens at the bar, lasts fifteen minutes, and is conducted by someone who is also doing three other things. It is not a corporate process and preparing for it like one reads badly.

What they are trying to establish is narrow: are you reliable, are you pleasant, will you fit this specific room, and are you going to leave in six weeks.

The question about your experience

It always comes, in one form or another. It is the whole reason this lesson exists.

"So you haven't bartended before?"

The failure modes are apologising, and overselling. Both are common and both are read immediately.

Do not do this:

"No, but I'm a really fast learner and I've watched a lot of videos and I'm sure I could pick it up super quickly, I've made drinks at parties…"

Or this:

"Well, I've done a bit here and there."
